Welcome back to all and a special welcome to our new families. The school term has started extremely well with students settling into their new classes and only a few tears from our new Pre-Primary students. Enrolments have continued to grow and we currently have over 330 students. These numbers will continue to grow in 2012 as we will be offering a Kindy program for the first time. With regards to our staffing, all our staff have been working here last year in some capacity, ensuring continuity and stability for 2011 which is important as we continue to work hard to support each of our students to achieve their potential. I welcome them all back as well and know that they have spent a good deal of their holidays preparing and planning.
CAMBODIA EDUCATIONAL TOUR
During the holidays, 6 of our teachers travelled at their own expense to Cambodia as part of the Angkor Project which is a partnership between the WA Education Department and Cambodia to support schools in the Kampong Speu province. East Maddington Primary School has committed to a sister school relationship with Pi Thanou, a primary school with 1200 students. The tour included a visit to our sister school as well as historical / cultural sites such as Angkor Wat in Siem Reap and S21 and the Killing Fields in Phnom Penh. We will be sharing more information about the tour and our sister school in our newsletters and at our next assembly. It certainly was a life changing experience for all of us and a timely reminder of how fortunate we are to live in Australia.
